Watching Microcosmos, I was mesmerized. Watching ladybugs dance, rain droplets falling from the sky and crashing down, and a full-on bug battle scene from so close-up is incredible, almost unimaginable. Without the use of robotics and special new (when the film was made twelve years ago) lenses, such a close-up experience would never be possible. It is amazing how, through viewing the film, we discover a whole new world of insects, flowers, etc. We can see the creatures interact on what almost feels like a human level -- the gratuitous snail love scene CLEARLY being no exception. They also showed colorful insects i had never even seen before! The film was beautifully put together, aside from the eerie music at the beginning an end. I liked the fact that the narration was extremely minimal, as more would have distracted from the visual content. It really humanized all these small creatures we generally view as pests. What a wonderful experience, if not sometimes slightly uncomortable.
